FAQs

This collection of essential answers to some of the most frequently asked questions (FAQs) has been compiled to ensure you have a complete overview of Sinomax USA® our line of mattress toppers and pillows, our unique memory foam, and CertiPUR-US® certification.

  • How can my Sinomax® memory foam topper help me sleep better?
    • With a memory foam mattress topper, you add an extra layer of body-hugging foam to your mattress. It actually relieves the pressure on your body, improves sleeping posture and allows your muscles to relax so you sleep more restfully.

  • What does the Sinomax® product warranty cover?
    • If you find that your purchased product is defective, please allow us the opportunity to correct it. Our warranty covers manufacturer defects only, not wear and tear from time and usage, or products damaged as a result of exposure to non-recommended environments. All claims are subject to review.

  • Can a Sinomax® memory foam mattress topper be trimmed to fit any bed?
    • As long as the mattress topper is large enough, you can use a serrated-edge cutting tool to trim any Sinomax® mattress topper to fit virtually any bed. This includes daybeds, camper and boat mattresses — even cots.

  • What memory foam topper sizes does Sinomax® make?
    • Sinomax® makes mattress toppers that can fit over any standard-sized twin, full, queen or king mattress, box spring or platform bed.

  • How does heat affect memory foam?
    • Memory foam technology was developed by NASA scientists to react to temperature. If it’s left exposed to extreme heat, the foam could soften and become less comfortable.

  • Why is there a recommended 24-hour waiting period before I can use my mattress topper?
    • Typically, you can place your memory foam mattress topper on top of your mattress and it will flatten almost fully within about an hour. After that, you can sleep on it, but it may take up to 24 hours for any slight chemical odor to disperse.

  • Can I use my own cover?
    • Definitely. You may use your own cover, but plastic waterproof covers may affect airflow and, therefore, comfort.

  • Can I use my own waterproof cover?
    • You may use waterproof covers, however, the cover provided allows more breathability for the memory foam and may be more comfortable to sleep on.

  • Where can I purchase additional covers?
    • Unfortunately, Sinomax® does not sell covers separately, either through our retailers or directly to consumers. We recommend using either a mattress cover or pad sold by the retailers who carry Sinomax mattress toppers. You should be able to find a deep cover and pad that fits most standard-sized mattresses — even with the additional thickness of the mattress topper.

  • Can I use an electric heating pad/blanket with my Sinomax® mattress or topper?
    • We don’t recommend it. Since body heat activates the memory foam and helps it contour around your body’s shape, we do not recommend using electric blankets, heating pads or electric mattress pads with your Sinomax® memory foam product. The additional heat can soften the foam and affect its comfort.

Should you decide to use a pad for short period of time to warm the bed, be advised to check all electrical blankets for potentially hazardous loose wires.

  • How often should I flip or rotate my mattress topper?
    • For maximum comfort, we recommend you rotate your Sinomax® mattress topper just once a month.

  • Why can't I find a mattress topper in my store that will fit my bed ?
    • Some retailers don’t carry all sizes of mattress toppers. Call your local retailer to confirm availability.

  • How do I know if the mattress topper I purchased is really memory foam?
    • Testing for memory foam is easy. Firmly press the palm of your hand on the topper and, if you leave a hand print indention when you remove your hand, you know it’s memory foam. Some thicker memory foam toppers are made with memory foam on one side and regular foam on the other. To get the most comfort and benefit from your mattress topper, place the topper with the memory foam side up.

  • Can I store my memory foam mattress topper?
    • Yes. Memory foam mattress toppers are made to be stored on a flat surface like a bed that’s not being used or underneath. Be sure not to fold it because it may tear.

  • Is my topper or pillow flammable?
    • As with any sleeping product, when exposed directly with flames, it will burn.  Be assured, however, that we meet the highest standards for flame retardancy, as determined by the California Technical Bulletin 117 test. This fire code information is available upon request and is accepted by most nursing homes across the country.

  • My topper has a zipper cover and two sides of memory foam. How do I set this up?
    • When you press down on the memory foam side, you’ll notice an impression of your hand — this is the side that goes up. Next, slip the cover over the foam and be sure that the zipper closure is on the bottom, or the non-memory foam side. When you’re finished, the zipper should lie on top of the mattress.

  • What is memory foam?
    • Memory foam, sometimes referred to as visco elastic polyurethane foam, is a combination of polyurethane and other chemicals that increase its viscosity and density. Memory foam reacts to body heat depending upon the foam’s density — the higher the density, the more it molds to the shape of your body.

  • Why is density important to the quality of memory foam?
    • Density is a lot like thread counts on sheets — the higher the thread count, the more comfortable the sheets are. The higher density memory foam used in Sinomax® products uses more material, which helps it last longer and stay comfortable longer.

  • Does memory foam smell?
    • Every product made of memory foam has some chemical odor, but it typically dissipates within a day or two if it’s allowed to air out.

  • How do I clean memory foam?
    • Do not apply water directly to your memory foam; instead, simply spot clean with a damp cloth.

  • Will sleeping on a memory foam mattress or topper make me too hot?
    • Most people prefer the comfort of a memory foam mattress or topper, Memory foam was designed to interact with body heat to create contoured support and comfort. It absorbs heat and becomes firmer in cooler temperatures, but there is no clinical data that proves that memory foam makes your body temperature rise while sleeping on it.

  • Can I be allergic to memory foam?
    • All Sinomax® products are hypoallergenic but on rare occasions it is possible to have a polyurethane allergy.  If you are allergy sensitive, we recommend washing the cover first to help prevent a reaction.

  • Does memory foam attract mold?
    • Unless your mattress, mattress topper or pillow becomes wet or soiled, it will not mold. However, in the event this does happen, we strongly suggest that you purchase a replacement to avoid mold forming.

  • I am moving. How do you recommend transporting my topper without damaging it?
    • Leave the cover on, and carefully roll the topper to help prevent it from tearing during your move.

  • What is CertiPUR-US®?
    • This voluntary testing, analysis and certification program was developed by members of the global foam industry in response to an increase in substandard imported foams. CertiPUR-US® tests for durability, content and indoor emissions. CertiPUR-US® is an extension of the European CertiPUR® program developed in 2002 by EUROPUR, the association of European flexible polyurethane foam block manufacturers. Products, such as upholstered furniture and mattresses, that carry the CertiPUR-US® seal contain flexible polyurethane foams that have been tested and certified by an independent laboratory to meet specific criteria for physical performance, indoor emissions and environmental stewardship.

  • Why is CertiPUR-US® important?
    • Today’s consumer cares about what’s inside the products they buy -– and that trend is growing. Tainted toothpaste. Unsafe toys. Deadly dog food. Are foam products next? News coverage about contaminated consumer products has put the public on high alert about what they buy for themselves and their families. When there is media coverage and consumer concern about “toxic” furniture or “hazardous” bedding, the CertiPUR-US® seal will enable consumers to make informed choices about the foam in the products they choose.

  • What is the CertiPUR-US® certification based upon?
    • The CertiPUR-US® certification is based upon standardized chemical analysis, emissions evaluation, environmental guidelines, physical performance testing, pledges of compliance and random compliance verification.

  • What products can be certified?
    • Each CertiPUR-US® registration covers only a specific class of polyether-based flexible polyurethane foam manufactured with the same raw materials. The categories are:

      • Conventional polyether foam
      • Conventional FR polyether foam (sharing the same fire retardant package)
      • Super-soft (low density/low index) conventional foam (≤15 lbs. IFD and ≤1.5 pcf )
      • High resilience foam
      • Visco elastic foam
      • Other foams to be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by a CertiPUR-US® administrator.
